It's been a while since we were in Ermoupoli. When we meet, Yinka, Margaret and I keep smiling at one another as if there's some secret we share ....... which of course there is!

I hope you are all settled back into your respective jobs and homes. In Liverpool the long, warm Autumn is stretching out for a few more days, the cold weather held back by a finger of high pressure pressing down from Scandanavia. In Scotland we say "We'll pay for that later."

We miss Marcus Aurelius' nose.

Thank you to everyone who organised and ran around and looked after us, making the visit such a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Get ready to digitize. Cheers Ewan

Wodden spoon

I was born in a village. My parents were farmers.

I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  My parents were very talented.

My mother sew, cooked, she did the bread herself, she worked in the garden.

My father did wooden spoons for 50 years of his life. He earned money this way.
He was one the best spoon makers in our region.

My father died 20 years ago. Today his student, Mietek, does the spoons.
If you want to do the spoon,  you have to find a piece of wood…

I saw how my father did the spoons using different tools.

It’s not an easy process. You have to be very patient.

All the children helped father to clean the spoons. We learn

ed to cooperate, to be responsible, and  always finish our work.

Helping my parents was also a great fun. We  understood what is the most important in our life.

My family is strong, because we are growing up  with the traditions, respect and love.

Today I learn my children what is the most important in our life.

It’s very important to remember who are we and to remember history of each family.

My father always said: the place where we were born is very important. Today I know it.

My granddaughter lives in London today, but me and my daughter, we learned her the family traditions.

I’m sure my family will keep the traditions. Till now we are using wooden spoons.
