Our
story doesn’t start as a fairy tale “Once upon a time”, or “centuries ago” ,this the reason we are to
start it with a prologue .
The
Cyclades Islands are known as a dry region with lack of water .In spite of its humid climate
it doesn’t rain too often. A drop of water is as important as a drop of honey.
Everything around is dry, yellow and
rocky. There are no forests, parks or fountains. The inhabitants of the island have created jokes
like: the lettuce is the highest plant of the island.
It
might seem strange, but an American tourist
was the one who gave value to the Northern part of the island. He was
inspired from a quote of Homer’s “Odyssey” . Evmeos was a shepherd from Syros
and he described his island as a rich and fertile land.
Fifty
years ago John Peerson decided to revive the myth so he learned from the farmers
how to plant trees and to protect them from the wind
…and
he planted not 10, not 100, not 1000
,but 10.000 roots.
Nowadays
thanks to John`s dream this area is an oasis, a paradise for everybody and an
attractive bay for the boats.
